Animals have always fascinated and captivated me! Hi, my name is Jamie. Welcome to The Zoo Review website. Here is a little about me and my husband Steve. I studied Conservation Biology, Zoology, and Wildlife Ecology in college. I was also lucky enough to meet a man who loves animals as much as I do. My husband Steve has a master’s in Biological and Agricultural Engineering.
My husband and I love taking trips and visiting zoos around the country. We have visited to date a total of 27 zoos. Mid way through this adventure we decided we needed to let other people know about our experiences. We decided a website would be the perfect vehicle to tell our stories, share our likes and dislikes, and overall help make your zoo adventure great.
You might ask, besides your love and passion for animals, why do you spend your time and money on The Zoo Review? Well, we don’t gain any type of monetary benefit for The Zoo Review so I understand your confusion. Yes, I am not getting paid, nor does The Zoo Review have any sponsors.
Our Purpose
This website above all else is an educational website. I want to educate people about zoos.
If I can show you pictures of animals we have seen in a zoo, and tell you about our trip to a zoo, maybe you get excited. If you get excited then you might visit a zoo.
When you are at the zoo, you can learn about the animals and the benefits they have to their species in the wild. If I tell you right now Scimitar Horned Oryx are extinct in the wild, what does that really mean to you? If you visit a zoo, see the Oryx, and learn about it, something special happens. Chances are, your new found knowledge coupled with your experience of seeing the animal in the flesh, will have more of an impact.
Our Mission
Above all I want to inspire people to get out, visit a zoo, enjoy spending time with their family, and learn about the animals in this world. Wildlife conservation has a much greater chance at succeeding if more people are inspired, educated, and passionate. If this website allows people to have as much love and passion for animals as I do, then I have succeeded.
We also want to provide you with the most up-to-date information about zoos you may want to visit, and tell you about our experiences and rating of the zoos we visit.
Our System
Our ratings are based on quality of the habitat for the animals, education provided for the visitor, cultural immersion, navigation through the zoos, and the variety of food offered at the zoos.
